Aluminum sheet metal is a highly versatile type of metal sheet that may be used in various applications and industries. It has chemical and structural properties that make it highly desirable and useful among other metal sheet options. At Howard Precision Metals, we do not level coil in for 10,000 lbs order like many other distributors do, instead we put our sawing expertise to work on sheet products. What do you do when you need a .125” thick sheet product cut to +/-.005” tolerance? You call the experts in tight tolerance cutting. Today, with the numerous electronics applications there is a need for sheet metal to be cut into thousands of small pieces to precise tolerances. That is where Howard Precision Metals and their sawing experience comes in handy.
What is Aluminum Sheet Metal?
The production of aluminum sheet metal is carried out when aluminum material is pressed and rolled under high pressure. Aluminum sheets are generally lightweight but also possess sufficient strength to be useful in numerous industry applications. Aluminum metal sheet is exceptionally versatile and is easy to manufacture, making it among the most popular of the metal sheets available on the market.
Different coatings and surface finishing’s are also available for aluminum sheet metal.
Prior to purchasing aluminum metal sheet, it is important to know the important features that characterize this metal. Some of the most significant benefits of aluminum metal sheet are as follows:
Lightweight
Aluminum sheet is about 1/3 the weight of steel sheet, making it one of the lightest metal sheets on the market. This makes the sheet easy to handle and it also helps reduce the weight of structures when this is important for cost.
Corrosion Resistance
Corrosion is a problem in many environments and industry settings. Aluminum is one those materials that does not easily corrode. It takes exceptional aggressive corrosive forces to cause corrosion in aluminum sheet with some alloys having more corrosive resistance than others.
Strength
Although aluminum sheet metal is lightweight, it is also quite strong at the same time. Because of its strength, combined with its lightweight feature, it is highly useful in various industrial applications. It is a durable and cost-effective shape for handling forces and stresses produced in a number of structural applications.
Formability
The melting point of aluminum sheet meal is relatively low. As a result, it can be formed easily into various shapes when it is placed under a certain level of heat.
Usable for Sensitive Applications
Aluminum metal sheet is ideal for use in food and chemical packaging. It does not react with many other materials too easily and therefore there is no concern for the aluminum sheet to negatively affect the food.
Reflectivity
Aluminum sheet metal is ideal for applications involving lighting due to its reflectivity, which means it reflects light and heat away from its surface.
Fireproof
When exposed to fire, aluminum sheet metals are resistant to burning, with only a thin layer of the sheet metal becoming affected. Also, when exposed to intense heat, aluminum sheet metal does not emit toxic gas.
Recyclable
Aluminum sheet is also recyclable – this is one of the characteristics of aluminum sheet that is most recognized and used. Many aluminum metals in use today have been recycled.
Offered in Multiple Thickness
You can choose aluminum sheet metal in various thicknesses and sizes as it comes in multiple dimensions.
Affordably Priced
Even though aluminum metal sheet offers a range of benefits, it is not very expensive when compared to many other metal options. However, its affordability does not diminish its quality and usefulness for a wide array of applications. Aluminum sheet metal is simply the ideal choice for many companies seeking a lightweight, yet strong and flexible metal.
Applicable for a Range of Industrial Uses
Many times, the use of aluminum sheet will be based on the thickness of the metal chosen. Small scale applications tend to utilize thinner sheets of aluminum. This is where the subject of sheet metal gauge becomes important. The gauge of sheet metal allows you to know its thickness and whether it is ideal for your application.
As a highly versatile metal, aluminum sheet is used in a vast array of applications in numerous industries. The applications to which this form of aluminum is applied range from small and sensitive to large scale.
As a metal that is useful in so many industries, you can actually find this metal almost everywhere. It is commonly used for cookware and for packaging in the food and beverage industry. Aluminum sheet is also often used for the bodies and framing of motor vehicles. This metal sheet is also often used in the building and construction industry for items that include sidings, drains, and much more.
Aluminum metal sheet is also ideal for the purpose of manufacturing metal nameplates and other similar items. Aluminum sheets are used often for making motor vehicle number plates due to the fact they are available at a reasonable cost and are corrosion resistant, lightweight, and require minimal maintenance.

The aluminum profile uses are far too great to overlook. This simple, yet ingenious product of modern metal fabrication has brought numerous advantages and benefits. It has been used in a range of structural, modelling, or framing applications. As products of the extrusion process, aluminum praoduct manufacturers have been able to produce differentiated extruded profiles that have unique qualities. Read on to learn more about their many different applications.
Production Lines
With the invention of the production, or assembly line, it has been possible for different kinds of industries to more efficiently manage their processes and operations. With the many properties of aluminum, it shouldn’t be a surprise why extruded profiles make the best use for the components of this complex machine.
Components like the solenoid valve can be made with aluminum material. This type of alloy is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and offers a low-cost option compared to other kinds of materials. Solenoid valves that are made of aluminum are especially effective in the transport, transmission, and distribution of different fluids. This durable, yet lightweight material can ensure that the production line stays in optimal condition.
Door Frames
Sliding glass door detail and rail
Aluminum profiles also make the best door frames. As you may already understand, the door is one of the most important parts of any building structure — it keeps objects from entering interior spaces and likewise protects the building from intrusions of any kind.
As door frames, aluminum not only improves the functionality of this structure, but it also has many decorative elements in contemporary architecture. The shiny finish of the aluminum is pleasing to look at. Aluminum door frames require very little maintenance, due to their resistance to material degeneration, like corrosion, degeneration, and rusting. The durability also prevents the entry of unwanted airborne particles, in order to retain a clean air quality inside the structure.
Window Sections
Compared to wooden, or timber sections, aluminum window sections are far more affordable and practical. Similar to the humble aluminum door frame, window sections that are made out of aluminum have both functional and decorative elements.
The problem with window sections that are made with different materials, is that they can degrade easily. For example, wood can be difficult to maintain, especially in the presence of harsh environmental conditions. Meanwhile, the many features and properties of aluminum profiles make it less destructive. The normal motion involved in sliding windows won’t be interrupted by environmental hazards like heavy rain and high temperatures.
Building Railings
A photo of aluminum railings on residential stairs
Building railings need to meet several safety standards. These structural components have been a part of both high-rise developments and humble residential spaces. While the main driver behind the installation of railings has mainly to do with safety, these may also have aesthetic implications.
As a material, aluminum is highly versatile and malleable. Manufacturers of guard railings can come up with a wide variation of designs on aluminum profiles. Aluminum profiles can be fabricated to become decorative columns, bottom rails, lattice systems, newel posts, and the like.
Utility Trailers
Utility trailers are primarily used for hauling different kinds of equipment. These simple machines can accommodate varying loads of objects, depending on the size of the trailer. They offer a high level of accessibility and flexibility — in particular, utility trailers come with a coupler hitch in order to tightly secure the entire system to a vehicle.
Decks of utility trailers are usually made out of heavy-duty wood panelling or high grade steel. These materials may not necessarily be cheap, but using aluminum profiles as side railings can greatly reduce the entire weight of the utility cart. There’s little-to-no need for future replacements because the material can greatly withstand many outdoor elements that may potentially mar the railings’ quality.
Drive Shafts
Brand new gear shafts for tractor transmission
Like many parts of a car, the drive shaft holds the responsibility of allowing vehicles to run smoothly on the road. These components enable the car to more smoothly shift from a static or idle position, into motion. Problems with the drive shaft can make vehicle control difficult or altogether impossible.
A drive shaft is fairly uncomplicated in appearance — it appears tubular, with flanges, tube shafts, yokes, and bearings attached to it. Aluminum drive shafts are therefore much lighter compared to materials like steel, for example. Cars with lighter components offer a significant increase in performance, maneuverability, and speed.
Radiators
Aluminum car radiators are not only affordable, but also provide a space-saving option for vehicles. Aside from

The transportation industry has long become a pillar industry for the economic and social development of industrialized countries, and is the largest user of aluminum alloy doors and windows profiles for large and medium-sized industrial structures.
In the aerospace field, large and medium profiles have long been widely used in aircraft, missiles, rockets and other aerospace aircraft. The top ten aluminum brands are the traditional aluminum profile market; in automobile manufacturing, body beams, side panels, hollow profiles, and side panels Column profiles, cargo box wall panel profiles, grooved wall panels and other compartment panel profiles, scaffold profiles, and the compartment frames of tanks, armored vehicles, personnel carriers, mail vehicles, medical vehicles, refrigerated vehicles and other special vehicles are made of large and medium-sized aluminum Alloy profile.
As early as 1974, the United States began to produce high-strength aluminum alloy profiles for low-disks of trucks, and Japan uses 300,000 tons of aluminum alloy profiles for automobile manufacturing every year. In terms of railway transportation and urban rail transportation, in order to achieve high-speed, safety, energy-saving, aesthetics, comfort, low-cost, and high-efficiency purposes, industrially developed countries have continuously increased the degree of aluminum, making high-speed trains, subway trains, light rail trains, and double-decker passenger cars Lightweight and modern. In recent years, even passenger and freight cars on ordinary railways have begun to use aluminum profiles to make car bodies.
The United States and the former Soviet Union have long used aluminum profiles to manufacture the bodies, frames, side panels and end doors of passenger cars and trucks that transport coal, chemicals, ore and other goods. Aluminum vehicles have already exceeded 10,000. As of 2005, the number of aluminum vehicles (passenger cars and trucks) in operation in Japan has reached more than 20,000, and there have been more than 150,000 aluminum vehicles in the world. According to reports, the Japanese government has ordered that all steel vehicles in Japan will be decommissioned by 2010 and replaced by aluminum vehicles. In terms of shipbuilding, all ships and ships’ superstructures, floors, decks, partitions, and decorative panels have used a large number of aluminum alloy profiles, and all-aluminum submarines, speedboats, motorboats, waterboats and racing boats have been used for operation. Temporary airport runways, military pontoons, highway and railway bridges and towers, and marine and vehicle containers closely related to the transportation industry have also begun to use aluminum plates and profiles in large quantities, of which aluminum profiles with large interruptions account for more than 45%.
In addition, modern industrial developed countries have also used aluminum in large quantities in electronics and electrical appliances, post and telecommunications, heat dissipation and air conditioning, petrochemical, mining anvil exploration, coal power, electromechanical manufacturing, and other industries. Among them, aluminum profiles for large interruptions account for about 50%. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently about 400 extruders with a capacity of more than 30MN in the world, with an annual output of about 500,000 tons of large and medium-sized industrial structure aluminum alloy profiles, while the world needs more than 800,000 tons each year, and the gap is large.

7 Things You Should Never Do With Aluminum Foil |

Aluminum foil has many uses in the kitchen and beyond, from tenting over casseroles to even cleaning grill grates. But it's not infallible.
There are some aluminum foil uses we don't recommend, either because they're not effective or they're just downright dangerous. We're not suggesting you toss this versatile kitchen wrap, but do make sure you're not committing any of these common aluminum foil mistakes.
1. Don't use aluminum foil to bake cookies.
When it comes to baking cookies, it's best to reach for parchment paper over aluminum foil. That's because aluminum is extremely conductive, meaning any part of the dough that makes direct contact with the foil will be exposed to much more concentrated heat than the rest of the dough. What you end up with is a cookie that's over browned or even burnt on the bottom and undercooked on the top.
Read More: Why You Should Never Bake Cookies on an Aluminum Foil-Lined Baking Sheet
2. Don't put aluminum foil in the microwave.
This one may go without saying, but a little reminder never hurts: According to the FDA, you should never put aluminum foil in the microwave because microwaves reflect off the aluminum, causing food to cook unevenly and possibly damage the oven (including sparks, flames, or even fires).
3. Don't use aluminum foil to line the bottom of your oven.
Lining the very bottom of your oven with aluminum foil might sound like a good way to catch spills and avoid major oven cleanups, but the folks at Reynolds don't recommend it: "To avoid possible heat damage to your oven, we do not recommend using aluminum foil to line the bottom of your oven." Instead of placing a sheet of aluminum foil on the oven floor, place a sheet on an oven rack below whatever you're baking to catch drips (make sure the sheet is only a few inches larger than your baking dish to allow for proper heat circulation). You can also just keep a sheet of foil on the lowest rack of your oven at all times, replacing the foil as necessary, in order to always have a layer of disposal protection against spills.
4. Don't use aluminum foil to store leftovers.
Leftovers will keep in the fridge for three to four days, but aluminum foil isn't ideal for storing them. Foil is not airtight, meaning no matter how tightly you wrap it, some air will get in. This allows bacteria to grow faster. Instead, store leftovers in airtight storage containers or food storage bags.
5. Don't toss aluminum foil after one use.
Turns out, Grandma was right. Foil can certainly be reused. If it's not too crumpled or soiled, you can wash aluminum foil by hand or in the top rack of the dishwasher to get a few extra miles out of each sheet. When you decide it's time to retire a sheet of aluminum foil, it can be recycled.
6. Don't bake potatoes in aluminum foil.
Think twice before wrapping your spuds in foil. Aluminum foil does trap heat, but it traps moisture, too. This means your potato will end up more soggy and steamed as opposed to baked and crisp.
In fact, the Idaho Potato Commission is adamant that baking potatoes in aluminum foil is a bad practice. Plus, storing a baked potato in the aluminum foil it was baked in gives botulinum bacteria the potential to grow.
So even if you do choose to bake your potatoes in aluminum foil, be sure to remove the foil before storing it in the fridge.
7. Don't use just the shiny side on aluminum foil.
Unless you're using a non-stick aluminum foil, it makes no difference which side of the foil you use. According to Reynolds, it's fine to place food on both the dull and shiny side of aluminum foil. The difference in appearance has to do with the milling process, in which one side comes in contact with the mill's highly polished steel rollers.

From storing leftovers to lining baking sheets, aluminum foil is a multitasker in the kitchen — and one you likely keep on hand in a nearby drawer. But chances are, you’re actually underusing this inexpensive kitchen essential. There are lots of creative ways to use foil for making everything from cleaning to food storage far more efficient — it might actually blow your mind.
Whether you just stocked up or you’re on the last few feet, you’re going to want to get your roll of aluminum foil out for this. Here are 10 clever uses for foil that can transform your kitchen routines.
1. Scrub stuck-on gunk.
Anytime you’d use steel wool, such as on pots and pans with dried-on food, try using a crumpled up ball of aluminum foil to scrub away stuck-on grime. Bonus points if you reuse foil from something else to extend its life and reduce waste! (Just don’t use it on nonstick pans.)
2. Line cabinets and drawers.
On top of protecting your kitchen storage spaces from pesky crumbs and spills — just toss the lining when it’s dirty — foil reflects light, making it that much easier to find what you need in the corner of a dark cabinet.
3. Improvise a pastry bag.
Decorating a cake? Create a cone or tube of aluminum foil, fill it with frosting, then toss it out when you’re done. Easy-peasy, and plastic-free!
4. Create a funnel.
If you don’t have a funnel on hand to pour ingredients into small containers, simply make one with a piece of aluminum foil. Heavy-duty foil, or a few layers of thinner foil, works best.
6. Keep food warm.
Coordinating a multi-course meal is hard, even for expert cooks. If your roasted veggies are finished before your main course, wrap the dish in aluminum foil to hold in the heat until it’s time to eat. Then, use the same foil to save your leftovers!
6. Line an air fryer or Instant Pot.
Air fryers, Instant Pots, and slow cookers make cooking a breeze — then you have to clean them. Skip the scrubbing part and line the inside with a layer of foil, so your food sits on top of it. Simply toss it (or reuse it for another meal if it didn’t get dirty) and your cleaning is done.
7. Soften hard brown sugar.
If you haven’t used your brown sugar in a while, it may be stuck together in a big, hard ball when it’s time to bake. Soften it by wrapping the lump in foil and baking it in your oven for five minutes at about 300°F.
8. Freeze food in it.
Along with holding heat in, heavy-duty aluminum foil can hold air in, so it’s great for keeping freezer food flavorful. Try wrapping leftovers, or even bread and rolls, in foil before you pop them in the freezer.
9. Restore shine to silverware.
Silverware seen better days? Foil to the rescue. Line a pan with aluminum foil, fill it with cold water, then add a few teaspoons of table salt along with your tarnished silverware. Remove the utensils five minutes later, then rinse and dry thoroughly. You can do the same by putting a ball of aluminum foil in with silverware when you run your dishwasher. They’ll be shinier than ever!
10. Scrub grates.
Grill and oven grates require lots of elbow grease to deep clean — that is, unless you use foil. Grab a sheet, make a ball, and use it (along with some soap and water, if needed) to scrub off burnt-on bits from your grates.

(1) According to the different patterns of aluminum plate, the common used types are as follows:
5 bars aluminum diamond plate: 5 bars non-slip aluminum plate is also known lancet-shaped diamond plate. It has good anti-slip ability, and is widely used in building (floor) platform design and other aspects. Because the pattern on the surface of the aluminum plate is arranged in parallel with five uneven patterns, and each pattern has an angle of 60-80 degrees with other patterns, this pattern has excellent anti-slip performance. This kind of aluminum plate is usually used in China as a kind of non-slip material, which has a good anti-slip effect and is cheap.

Aluminum diamond plate: It is a commonly used anti-slip aluminum plate style with good anti-slip effect. It is mainly used in carriages, platforms, skids in cold storage and workshops, and skids in elevators.
Orange peel aluminum checkered plate: It is divided into classic orange peel aluminum diamond plate, variant orange peel aluminum diamond plate (also called bug pattern). Its surface shows an orange peel pattern, so it can also be called an orange peel aluminum diamond plate. It is a series of pattern products commonly used in refrigerators, air conditioners and packaging.
Aluminum spherical diamond plate: It can also be called aluminum semi-spherical patterned sheet. The surface shows a small spherical pattern, just like small pearls, so this aluminum sheet can become a pearl-shaped aluminum sheet. It mainly used in outer packaging. The appearance is relatively beautiful. Due to the special pattern, the strength of this aluminum plate is much higher than other pattern series.
The common patterns of these are diamond and 5-bar aluminum tread plate. Especially aluminum diamond plate which are commonly also used in packaging pipes or outer packaging.

(2) According to the different aluminum alloys, there are 3 types:
Ordinary aluminum diamond plate: processed with 1060 aluminum plate as the base. In terms of price, it is the cheapest among the three types. It is also the most widely used patterned aluminum plate. Basically, it can be chosen except for any special environment. Usually used in cold storage, flooring, and outer packaging.
Aluminum-manganese alloy diamond plate: processed with 3003 as the main raw material. This type of aluminum plate is also called rust-proof aluminum plate. Its strength is slightly higher than that of ordinary aluminum alloy pattern diamond plate. It has certain rust prevention properties, but has hardness and corrosion resistance it can’t reach 5000 series of diamond plates, so this product is applied in non-strict anti-rust, such as truck compartments, cold storage floor.
Aluminum-magnesium alloy diamond plate: processed from 5000 series aluminum plates such as 5052 or 5083. In terms of the content of aluminum, it is the highest. So this kind of patterned aluminum plate is not only very strong in hardness and can withstand gravity, but also has dual functions of anti-rust and anti-corrosion. It is generally used in particularly humid places such as ships.

(3) According to the surface treatment, there are 2 types:
Highly Polished Aluminum Diamond Plate
The brilliant shine of Aluminum Diamond Plate adds sparkle, along with durability. Also known as Aluminum Tread Plate, Tread Bright, Aluminum Floor Plate. Due to the highly reflective and economical, 3003 Aluminum Diamond Plate is widely used in decorative, cosmetic and architectural applications. Having good forming, drilling and welding ability, Aluminum Diamond Plate is easy to fabricate. Its raised bar can enhance the support strength of the aluminum plate which can make it difficult for the aluminum plate to deform then provides good slip resistance.
Mill Finish Aluminum Diamond Plate
Strength, skid resistance, and durability are the primary selling points of this product. 6061 Aluminum Diamond Plate is widely used for a wide variety of industrial applications – flooring, loading ramps, trench covers, dock flooring, stair treads, elevator floors, freezer floors, etc. Compared with 3003, 6061 aluminum tread plate offers increased strength and corrosion resistance. It is easy to weld and drill, but has limited formability. 6061 Floor plate is an industrial grade aluminum with a dull mill finish, not intended for decorating applications. Some minor scuffs and scratches may be present.

How to measure the weight of a 4×8 aluminum sheet? How much does a 4×8 aluminum plate weigh? How to measure the weight of a “1/4 inch 4×8 aluminum sheet” size. To measure the weight of a “1/4 inch 4×8 aluminum sheet”, there are two methods:
1. Using a weighing scale:
This is the most common method. Place the entire aluminum plate on the scale and record the reading. Make sure to set the units to the appropriate weight unit (such as pounds or kilograms) to get the correct weight.
![[Image: Other-metal-sheet14.jpg]](http://www.ihuoba.cn/uploads/Other-metal-sheet/Other-metal-sheet14.jpg)
2. Weight = Volume x Density
To measure the weight of a “1/4 inch 4×8 aluminum sheet”, you need to know its length, width and thickness, and use the following formula to calculate:
Among them, the area is equal to the length multiplied by the width, and the density is the density of aluminum, which is about 2.7g/cm³ (2.7×10³g/m³)
Assuming the aluminum sheet is 8 feet (96 inches) long, 4 feet (48 inches) wide, and 1/4 inch (0.25 inch) thick, the calculations can be done as follows:
Converting inches to feet gives the aluminum sheet a length of 8 feet, a width of 4 feet, and a thickness of 0.0208 feet.
To calculate the area, area = 8 feet x 4 feet = 32 square feet.
To calculate volume, volume = area x thickness = 32 square feet x 0.0208 feet = 0.6656 cubic feet.
To calculate weight, weight = volume x density = 0.6656 cubic feet x 2.7 g/cm3 x 0.0353 oz/g = 6.4 lbs (approximately 2.9 kg).
So this “1/4 inch 4×8 aluminum sheet” weighs about 6.4 lbs.
