How the Aluminum Plate is Produced |

How the aluminum plate is produced? The production process of aluminum plate to aluminum sheet and aluminum foil.
Rolling begins with preheated aluminum sheet ingots that can weigh more than 20 tons. As the size of rolling mills has increased, so has the size of these ingots, but a typical ingot is approximately 6 feet wide, 20 feet long and more than 2 feet thick. The ingot is first heated to rolling temperature and fed into a breakdown mill, where it is rolled back and forth until the thickness has been reduced to just a few inches. The slab can be subsequently cold rolled or may be heat-treated to increase its strength. The highest strength alloys are heat treated and rapidly cooled to room temperature, after which they are stretched to straighten and relieve internal stress built up during rolling and heat-treating. They are aged naturally at room temperature or artificially aged in a furnace to develop the desired combination of strength and corrosion resistance. Finally, the aluminum plate is trimmed to final size. Aluminum plates produced in this manner may be used at full thickness, but are often machined into a variety of simple to complex shapes.
From aluminum plate to aluminum sheet and aluminum foil
The production of aluminium alloy sheet or aluminum foil usually starts out the same way as aluminum plate but the slab is further rolled through a continuous mill to reduce thickness and wound into a aluminum coil and roll at the end of the line. These aluminum coils are subsequently cold rolled, from one to several passes at cold rolling mills. Coils may be heated in a furnace to soften it for further cold rolling or produce the desired mechanical properties. Cold rolling is the last step for some aluminum sheet, but other types (referred to as heat-treatable) are subjected to further elevated-temperature processing to increase their strength.
Some aluminum sheet and aluminum foil products may also be produced using the continuous casting process in which molten metal enters the caster, which produces a hot rolled aluminum coil, thus bypassing the ingot casting and hot rolling

How can I put the stiffness back in my aluminum plate after welding? |

When I weld aluminum plate 3/16" to 1/4" for truck bodies it loses its stiffness. The same thing happens when making panels for car bodies. If I heat the panels to about 400 or 500 degrees and let it cool, it becomes very flexible and I can form the plates very easily. How can I put the stiffness back into the plates after I am done forming it?
A - Aluminum alloys are normally purchased in a specific temper. In the case of the non-heat treatable alloys, this is the -H Temper, which relates to the strain-hardened condition of the material. In the case of the heat treatable alloys, this is the -T Temper, which reflects the thermal treatment that the material has been subjected to during manufacturing. Both of these temper methods are used to impart strength to the base material. The strengthening characteristics of the -H and -T Tempers can be significantly affected by heating of the base material.
After arc welding for instance, a reduction in strength is seen as well as an increase in ductility within a localized area adjacent to the weld. This area has been heated, during the welding operation, to a sufficient temperature for an adequate amount of time to anneal or partially anneal the base material. The same effect will occur when heating an entire panel. The heating operation will start to remove some of the strengthening that was introduced by the tempering operations and it will lower the tensile strength and increase the materials ductility (formability). The higher the temperature and the longer the time at temperature, the more pronounced the effect on the material.
Unfortunately, there is not a practical way to reintroduce the stiffness into the base material of a fabricated part after it has been reduced by heating. In theory, strengthening the effected material by strain-hardening or heat treatment could be done, however, because of the procedures required to perform these operations, it is not usually an appropriate option. Strain-hardening is achieved through controlled physical deformation of the base material, which generally involves a reduction in the cross-sectional area. Heat treatment to improve mechanical properties generally involves heating to a very high temperature followed by quenching in water and then controlled reheating for a further period of time. Post weld heat treatment of aluminum alloys is used in some specialized applications, however, there are a number of major considerations such as distortion of the fabricated part as it is heated and cooled through a very wide range of temperatures, practicality of physically heating and cooling the entire component and the cost involved with this elaborate procedure.

As the most abundant element in the crust, aluminium exits in our lives in many kinds of formations. The application of aluminium alloy is the most popular. The density of A-alloy is low while the intensity high which is almost surpassing the one of high-grade steel. The nature of plasticity is good with which could produce to different formations with good performance on electroconductibility, conductivity on heat and corrosion resistance.
Introduction of Aluminium Alloy
Aluminium alloys (or aluminum alloys; see spelling differences) are alloys in which aluminium (Al) is the predominant metal. The typical alloying elements are copper, magnesium, manganese, silicon, tin and zinc. There are two principal classifications, namely casting alloys and wrought alloys, both of which are further subdivided into the categories heat-treatable and non-heat-treatable. About 85% of aluminium is used for wrought products, for example rolled plate, foils and extrusions. Cast aluminium alloys yield cost-effective products due to the low melting point, although they generally have lower tensile strengths than wrought alloys. The most important cast aluminium alloy system is Al–Si, where the high levels of silicon (4.0–13%) contribute to give good casting characteristics. Aluminium alloys are widely used in engineering structures and components where light weight or corrosion resistance is required
With the technology development and progress on the production of aluminum, the advantages of A-alloy will be magnified such as the increasing production and marketing. In the A-alloy productions, the demanding of aluminum sheet and belt is also increasing on the big stuffs like spaceships, airplanes, aircraft carriers while the small things like food cases, tags and cellphones and elsewhere.
Following are the classification of A-alloy which is classified by the content of elements. Pure Al 1 in which the content of aluminum is above 99.00% is with good performance on electroconductibility, conductivity on heat and corrosion resistance. A-alloy 2 in which the content of copper is the main element is with good performance on cutability, high intensity, but low corrosion resistance. The A-alloy 3 in which the manganese is the main element is with high intensity, good corrosion resistance and also, the conductivity on heat is better than the one of pure Al 1. A-alloy 4 which mainly contains silicon is with good heat resistance and wear-resisting. A-alloy 5 which mainly contains magnesium is with medium intensity, corrosion resistance and good welding character. A-alloy 6 in which the main elements are magnesium and silicon and the strength phase being the Mg2Si is with great medium intensity structure alloy and good welding character and processability. A-alloy 7 which mainly contains zinc has high intensity, corrosion resistance but low welding character. It is good to applied in high intensity materials. A-alloy 8 in which the main elements are other alloy elements are mainly used on aluminium sheet and bottle cap etc.

According to different aluminum content of alloying elements, aluminum can be divided into eight series,
1000 series are essentially pure aluminium with a minimum 99% aluminium content by weight and can be work hardened.
2000 series are alloyed with copper, can be precipitation hardened to strengths comparable to steel. Formerly referred to as duralumin, they were once the most common aerospace alloys, but were susceptible to stress corrosion cracking and are increasingly replaced by 7000 series in new designs.
3000 series are alloyed with manganese, and can be work hardened.
4000 series are alloyed with silicon. Variations of Aluminum-silicon alloys intended for casting (and therefore not included in 4000 series) are also known as silumin.
5000 series are alloyed with magnesium, and offer superb corrosion resistance, making them suitable for marine applications. Also, 5083 alloy has the highest strength of not heat-treated alloys.
6000 series are alloyed with magnesium and silicon. They are easy to machine, are weldable, and can be precipitation hardened, but not to the high strengths that 2000 and 7000 can reach. 6061 alloy is one of the most commonly used general-purpose aluminium alloys.
7000 series are alloyed with zinc, and can be precipitation hardened to the highest strengths of any aluminium alloy (ultimate tensile strength up to 700 MPa for the 7068 alloy).
8000 series are alloyed with other elements which are not covered by other series. Aluminium-lithium alloys are an example
Depending on the process, aluminum sheet also can be divided into cold-rolled and hot-rolled
Widely used common grades:
1060 pure aluminum plate strip. Foil. Plate, drawing tube. Squeeze tube. type. Baton. Cold bar is mainly used for corrosion resistance in the case of forming relatively high, but not high intensity components, such as chemical equipment, marine equipment, railway tanker, conductive material, instrumentation materials, welding and something like that
3003: Aluminum plate and Aluminum strip. Aluminum Foil. Plate, drawing tube. Squeeze tube. type. Baton. Wire. Cold bar, cold wire, rivets, wire, forgings, foil, heat sink material is mainly used for processing the need for good formability, high corrosion resistance, good weld ability or parts, or both of these performance requirements. It needs higher than 1 *** alloy strength of the work piece, such as transport liquid tank and tank, pressure tanks, storage devices, heat exchangers, chemical equipment, aircraft fuel tanks, oil tube, reflectors, kitchen equipment, washing machine cylinder body, rivets, welding wire.
Clad aluminum 3003 alloy sheet, plate, drawing tube. Squeeze tube housing partition, roof, piping, etc.
3004 sheet, plate, drawing tube. squeeze tube is used for aluminum cans, requiring higher than the 3003 alloy parts, chemical products and storage equipment, sheet metal parts, building baffles, cable ducts, sewers, all kinds of lighting components.
3004 alloy clad aluminum sheet, plate mainly used for housing partition, baffle, sewers, industrial plants Housing cover
5052 Aluminum sheet, plate, sheet, foil, drawing tube, cold bar, cold wire, rivets, wire, this alloy has good forming properties, corrosion resistance, weld ability, fatigue strength and static strength medium, for the manufacture of aircraft fuel tanks, pipelines, and transportation vehicles, vessels, sheet metal parts, instruments, lights bracket and rivets, wire and so on.
6061 Aluminum sheets, thick materials, drawing tube. Squeeze tubes, rods, profiles, wire, tube, rolled or extruded structural shapes, cold bar, cold wire, rivets, wire, forgings. It requires a certain degree of strength, corrosion resistance, weld ability, high variety of industrial structures, such as the manufacture of trucks, tower buildings, ships, trams, railway vehicles, furniture, etc. with the tubes, rods, profiles.
7075 aluminium alloy is an aluminium alloy, with zinc as the primary alloying element. It is strong, with a strength comparable to many steels, and has good fatigue strength and average machinability. It has lower resistance to corrosion than many other aluminium alloys, but has significantly better corrosion resistance than the 2000 alloys. Its relatively high cost limits its use.

ot rolling aluminium plate is that aluminium ingot cast into slab which thick is 300-500 mm, then roll above the recrystallization temperature, after heating, then roll in the hot rolling equipment into various thickness rolling products, then they need to finish. Secondly many materials need high corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, high plasticity, etc. This needs to be hot rolled. Hot roll refers to process and organize through 90% hot deformation, during the large plastic deformation process, the internal organization has experienced many times to restore, recrystallization, crush the rough casting state grain, make microscopic fracture healing, make the uniformity the billet in the internal organization ,the grain ‘s size and shape, casting defects and line defect concentration changes, have got significant improvement, make the as-cast organization to transformdeformed microstructure, which greatly improve the performance of the processing of metal. Especially in the case of deep drawing performance, hot roll take advantages of the cast rolling.
Whats Hot Rolling aluminium plate
The advantages of the hot rolling
Hot roll cogging can weld the part of the ingot casting defects such as loose, porosity and micro cracks together, which will not cause subsequent processing internal organization defects; The grain of the strip are close, various properties are even. Hot rolled aluminum plate surface quality is good, they have strong mechanical properties and ductility at the same time, oxidation effect is good.
The classification of hot roll
1, hot rolled plate,: the thickness of aluminium and aluminium alloy plate is not less than 7.0mm, the main varieties :hot rolled plate, annealing strip, quenching and quenching pre-stretching plate, etc. Hot rolled thick plates usually adopt block slice method to produce in the hot rolling mill, the traditional technological process : ingot homogenizing, milling surface, heating, hot rolling - scale shear - straightening.
Hot-rolled coil: thickness of aluminium and aluminium alloy plate and strip is less than 7.0mm often adopt the way of hot-rolled coil, products are mainly used for cold rolled billet, they are also used to product sheets, Modern production process : ingot milling surface heating - >soaking heat integration - hot roughing - hot even milk - baling weighing
Hot rolled aluminum plate refers to those whose thickness is more than 4.5mm and widely used in industrial applications, tank car aluminum cans with aluminum plate, grinding tool with aluminum, a container with aluminum plate, pressure vessel, automotive, construction machinery with aluminum plate, etc.
Hot rolled aluminum plate has an added uniform annealing process, such as composition segregation, such as impurity defects are relatively easy to solve. The quality of the products are higher than that of cast-rolling aluminum plate, hot rolled aluminum plate on deep drawing performance, bending performance is far higher than that of cast-rolling aluminum plate, the price also is higher than cast-rolling aluminum plate.
Common aluminum plate of hot rolled includes 1series, 1100, 1060, 1070, 1050, 3 series 3003, 3004, 3005, 3104, 3005, 5 series of 5082, 5182, 5083, 5754, 5083, 6, 6061, 6082, 6083, etc.

aluminum tread plate also called aluminum checker plate or aluminum diamond plate. It is very popular in recent years either in construction or industrial manufacturing. The applications of aluminum tread plate are pretty vast, mainly used as anti-slippery things. As there are more and more aluminum tread plate in markets, how to protect or maintain it could be a problem.
How to Protect Aluminum Tread Plate?
1. When cleaning aluminum tread plate, we should clean it from top to bottom, from edges to center. This procedure must be followed, or else there might be do damages to your products.
2. Generally speaking, the chemical properties of aluminum product are unstable, so we must pay attention to choose the neutral detergent instead of acid or basic. Thus, we can avoid damages or corruptions to aluminum tread plate. Then how to figure out the detergent is appropriate to use? We can put the detergent and some aluminum product together to see if there are any changes. In this way, we can decide whether to use this one or not.
3. During the washing process, we should also pay attention to cleaning tools. Do not use tools, such as steel wire ball, that as high strength in case of damage aluminum tread plate. recommends that rail type standard window cleaning machine would be a wise choice.
4. After cleaning of aluminum tread plate, we’d better ventilate. If we leave it wet in the air for too long, the surface of aluminum tread plate might be oxidized. An oxidized film will occur on hr surface. Thus, it will cause rough surface and darker color of aluminum tread plate. Then the appearance of tread plate can be influenced.

6061-T6 aluminum sheet is one of the most commonly available tempered grades of 6061 alloys as solutionized and artificially aged.
What`s 6061-T6 aluminum sheet
haomei Aluminum is one of the largest 6061-T6 aluminum sheet materials manufacturer in China, and China’s leading 6061-T6 materials supplier and export.
6061 is a precipitation hardening aluminium alloy, containing magnesium and silicon as its major alloying elements. Originally called "Alloy 61S," it was developed in 1935. It has good mechanical properties and exhibits goodweldability. It is one of the most common alloys of aluminium for general purpose use.
6061-T6 aluminum sheet has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 42,000 psi (300 MPa) and yield strength of at least 35,000 psi (241 MPa). More typical values are 45,000 psi (310 MPa) and 40,000 psi (275 MPa), respectively. In thicknesses of 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) or less, it has elongation of 8% or more; in thicker sections, it has elongation of 10%. T651 temper has similar mechanical properties. The typical value for thermal conductivity for 6061-T6 at 77°F is around 152 W/m K. A material data sheet defines the fatigue limit under cyclic load as 14,000 psi (100 MPa) for 500,000,000 completely reversed cycles using a standard RR Moore test machine and specimen. Note that aluminum does not exhibit a well defined "knee" on its S-n graph, so there is some debate as to how many cycles equates to "infinite life". Also note the actual value of fatigue limit for an application can be dramatically affected by the conventional de-rating factors of loading, gradient, and surface finish.
6061-T6 aluminum sheet is used for:
· bicycle frames and components.
· many fly fishing reels.
· The famous Pioneer plaque was made of this particular alloy.
· the secondary chambers and baffle systems in firearm sound suppressors (primarily pistol suppressors for reduced weight and improved mechanical functionality), while the primary expansion chambers usually require 17-4PH or 303 stainless steel or titanium.
· The upper and lower receivers of many AR-15 rifle variants.
· Many aluminum docks and gangways are constructed with 6061-T6 extrusions, and welded into place.
· Material used in some ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chambers
· Many parts for remote controlled model aircraft, notably helicopter rotor components.

How to Choose Aluminum Plate for Shipbuilding? |

With the increasingly demands for aluminum alloy plate in various field, the superior properties of aluminum alloy plate has been concentrated by more and more people, especially for aluminum shipbuilders. Aluminum plate for shipbuilding has become the new market for most of primary aluminum producers of china like haomei Aluminum. The special application field of aluminum plate for shipbuilding has decided the good characteristics of these aluminum alloy sheet. Aluminum plate for shipbuilding mainly includes 5083, 5086, 5454, 5754, 6061 and etc.
How to Choose Aluminum Plate for Shipbuilding?
There are four principles for choosing proper aluminum plate for ship building.
Firstly, this alloy should have high elasticity modulus and specific modulus. The structural strength and size of ship body is closely related with the yield strength and elasticity modulus of aluminum plate. Generally speaking, all aluminum alloy keeps similar elasticity modulus and density, so there is little influence on add of alloy elements like magnesium, manganese or silicon. So the only way to reduce the body weight is to increase the yield strength of aluminum plate for shipbuilding. It is hard to keep both good corrosion resistance and weldbility for high strength aluminum alloy. For most of aluminum alloy plate for shipbuilding is in middle strength, but both corrosion resistance and good weldbility.
Secondly, a qualified aluminum plate for shipbuilding should keeps good weldability, which can prevent ship body out of cracking during the welding process. Good weldability means that the formed crack will be the smallest one at large. So a good aluminum plate for shipbuilding should keeps good weldability while it is impossible to restore the weldability by heat retreatment in shipbuilding process. Thirdly, aluminum alloy have excellent corrosion resistance properties to adapt the wet marine environment. Thanks to the complicated treatment process so that aluminum alloy can meet the strictly demand for strength and corrosion resistance in marine environment.
There is a stringent requirement for shipbuilder to choose the proper aluminum plate for shipbuilding. Among all of aluminum alloy form 1000 series to 8000 series, alloy 5083, 5086, 5454, 5754 as well as 6061 can meet people’s requirement.

Aluminum sheet smelting process must have a sufficiently high temperature to ensure that aluminum alloy and other metal elements melting and dissolved sufficiently, the heating temperature is too high, the melting speed faster, but also make mutual harmful action metal with the furnace gas, lining and so reduce the time . Practice shows that rapid heating to accelerate the melting charge, shorten the melting time, to improve productivity and quality are beneficial.
How to Control the Temperature of Aluminum Plate During Melting?
But the high temperature prone to overheating, especially in the use of flame reverberatory furnace heating, gun charge in direct contact to the intense heat is applied to the molten or semi-molten metal, prone to gas invasion melt. Meanwhile, the higher the temperature, the reaction interact with the metal furnace gas, the lining also be faster, it will cause metal loss and decrease melt quality. Superheated gas absorbs not only easy, but also easy to make the grain structure in the solidified ingot thick, increasing propensity ingot cracks Alloy. Therefore, in the smelting operation, should control the melting temperature of the melt to prevent overheating.
Aluminum sheet in actual production, it is necessary to prevent overheating of the melt, but also to accelerate the melting, melting time shorter. Control the melting temperature is extremely important. Most plants are using flash after feeding high-temperature rapid melting, so that in a semi-solid, semi-liquid state of metal shorter time when exposed to intense flame furnace gas and reduce the oxidation of the metal, burning and reduce melt suction gas. When a layer of liquid metal after the charge level, in order to reduce local overheating of the melt should be appropriate to reduce the melting temperature, and to strengthen the agitation in order to facilitate the melt in the smelting process of heat conduction.

Aluminum foil is made of aluminum sheet from direct rolling, because the effect of the short-run effect and it is similar with pure silver, so it is called fake silver foil.Aluminum foil has good performance, surface safety and sanitation, acid and alkali corrosion, with long-term preservation, so it is used in some food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging, etc.Especially in the beverage, barbecue, snacks and other packaging, food packaging aluminum foil application is the current main direction. Then is food packaging aluminum foil is absolutely safe?
Is Food Packaging Aluminum Foil Safe?
Aluminum foil has elegant silver luster, it can be moisture, air tightness, light shading, wear, non-toxic, tasteless, and therefore it is the current green, environmentally friendly food packaging materials. In particular, when aluminum foil, plastic and paper are composite, the food can be well preserved from outside of the light, wet, gas, etc.Especially for food cooking packaging, if we use such material, at least, it can ensure that the food not bad for more than a year. Moreover, the heating and the package are very convenient, so it is welcomed by consumers. To heat the milk in winter, , for example, some office workers or students will heat milk as breakfast, however whether the aluminum in the foil packaging will not enter the milk or not, we shall have a look at the test data.
First, experts go to pick up three kinds of milk for sampling, respectively, to take 3 ml into the test tube. Then three kinds of milk were heated to 50 degrees Celsius, then take 3 ml into the test tube.It was found that there was no change in the content of protein in three kinds of milk.Subsequent analysis of the aluminum element, the results showed that after heating the milk aluminum foil did not release the aluminum,That is to say, the aluminum foil food packaging of milk and other food packaging is absolutely safe, after heating will not cause any harm. Therefore, refer to the current packaging materials, food packaging aluminum foil is the most safe, green, environmentally friendly new materials.
Food packaging aluminum foil is safe and environmental protection, can be recycled packaging materials, the production process has been more mature in China, most manufacturers are able to meet the production standards. As a consumer, it is not necessary to worry about the safety of packaging aluminum foil.
