The molecular formula for Aluminium chloride is AlCl3. It is the main compound of aluminium and chloride. It is white in colour but it often contaminated by iron chloride which changes its colour to yellow.
AlCl3 has three different structures. Solid AlCl3 is a sheet-like layered cubic close packed layers. The Al centers exhibit octahedral geometry, with the central aluminum ion surrounded by six water ligand molecules.
But it usually exists as a dimer (Al2Cl6) with tetracoordinate aluminium.
