The Molecular Formula of Aluminium Chloride is AlCl3
A breif on how the molecular formula of Aluminium Chloride is determined.
Aluminum has 3 electrons in it’s valence shell so it is willing to give electrons rather than to accept ones, while chlorine has 7 electron in it’s valence shell which makes it tend to accept electrons. As one chlorine atom will only be able to accept only 1 electron to conplete its valence shell, the Aluminum will require 3 chlorine atoms to get it self stabilised. Therefore Aluminium shares one electron with each of the 3 chlorine atoms and hence the molecular formula AlCl3. Where Al will possess positive three(+3) charge and each of Chlorine atom will posses negative one (-1) charge.
