Before getting in to the details of it, answer to "Is it harmful to cook or eat in aluminium utensils?" It is DANGEROUS to use ALUMINIUM.
To support my answer I can give lots of evidence and references but trying to keep it simple. Aluminium as a metal is not good for human body. When we cook or drink in aluminium utensils small quantity of aluminium gets in to our body. But due to its properties aluminium neither gets digested nor gets out of the system as waste.
Human body is a miracle and it understands if foreign particles gets in to the body it handles it, but constant exposure of aluminium to the body leads to many critical illness. Unfortunately the impact is not overnight and after many years if someone shows up cancer symptoms, impact of aluminium is ignored. It is a slow poison.
Same with non-stick cookware. Ditch the Non-Stick (Dangers of Non-Stick Cookware)Teflon is a coating over aluminium and when teflon wears out or a scratch in the cookware, it exposes aluminium during cooking.
