UPVC or, aluminium as a choice of material has the repercussions on the structure and the design of both window and the building elevation.
If you choose thermal break aluminium, it has several advantage: maintenance is simple and undemanding as well as performance is good. It offers good heat & noise insulation. It is easy to work on and feature high manufacturing accuracy that translates to very close tolerances and thus tightly sealed joints.
Upvc windows has certain limitation as sun heat can cause colored sections to heat up to 80 degree which in turn can lead to deformation. Coloured section are made by adhesive binding of a dyed top coat on the base material. This process reduces the price advantages compared to other material. Since upvc windows are not particularly rigid, their installation sizes are limited. The upvc windows are often reinforced with steel inside. Also upvc windows do not provide effective resistance over fire.
I prefer in India, aluminium thermal-break system windows over upvc windows.
