What is the difference between cast and wrought aluminium alloys?

The term “wrought” when applied to aluminum means that it’s a metal alloy in which Aluminum makes up most of the volume. While cast aluminum may be pure aluminum. It’s easily possible to cast molten aluminum into metal parts for things like bicycle rims but most manufactured parts are alloys of aluminum because adding other elements changes the aluminum so that it has more desirable characteristics like hardness and strength.

Cast means the metal is heated to its melting point, and then poured into a mold. Producing a complete part, which may or may not require post casting machining. Wrought is not a well defined term. Primarily it simply means shaped and assembled into a finished product.
